This has the makings for an excellent game. Some things missing to make this fun is the core game loop: if you had a timer for getting around the track, that would be enough to set up the game loop. Number go up for a reason and the game loop is made. Another thing that could make this interesting would have been shortcuts around the track, again for the purpose of getting a better time. This is a gem in the rough, and could have been awesome with more time.
